2011 Wheel Comes Full Circle

Winter Solstice has been celebrated, the Long Night Moon rests until next season, we enter Candlemas, share Old Moon and meditate in the time of Spirit, contemplating North, listening to the Healing Warrior. Now are the days to smudge sweetgrass, to reflect on our journey this year, to calm ourselves as we wheel into 2012. Share quiet time with small gatherings of friends, journal the year and sleep long and deep.

Gifting The Empty Box

Organizing and wrapping the year in the waning days of 2011, I feel the greatest gift for me this year is an empty box. I've felt unreal for months. Now I think I know what that is. It's that I don't know me. My life as a perfectionist ended these last 18 months. The OCD stuff that littered my brain, world and ability to be calm and succeed is becoming the past. How can you fill your cup/realm/spirit when it's already full? Rife with perceptions, lies, and false realities imposed by everything external? We adapt to our family of origin, culture, schooling and career designed for societal success. We are trained in the roles that make it simple to keep a society asleep. I know nothing about the truth that is me. And that unknowing is a gift - a gift I can give only to myself. A big ol' box of the Linda to be. Already open. Infinitely enormous. Infinitesimally tiny. As 2012 dawns, I will treasure the not knowing in brighter light, quieter silence and joyicity.

12.21.2012

Here's what all the fuss is about: we're at the apogee of an elliptical orbit about to be swung around into the next 26,000 years. We're completing a circuit of all twelve houses of the Zodiac in quadruply significant space/time. The Mayan Long Count calendar ends. Sacred geometry starts dancing with the stars. Prognosticators are all poised to say "I told you so!" Nostradamus is interviewing agents for a comeback. The Antikythera mechanism is shinier suddenly. Chicken Little is booked for Oprah plus The Daily Show, and the Julian calendar is wondering where it went wrong. It quacks like a big deal, feels like a big deal, because it is a big deal. None of us will be around the next time this happens, and we have no idea what anything was like the last time this happened. On the whiteboard of infinity, the next 26,000 years are taking shape. Maybe the Mayans just ran out of markers?

The Boot

2012. The movie. It's not just an awful movie (what was John Cusack thinking?) it's got misogynistic dialogue. While a plastic surgeon gropes his wife in the grocery store, and she says "hands off the merchandise," the groper sighs, "women pay thousands of dollars to have me handle their boobs, and you get it for free." Wow. Be still my heart. When asked by a plastic-enhanced patient how the wife met her surgeon chest-groping husband, the wife glances at her breasts and replies that it obviously wasn't the way the patient met him. Ugh. The Boot to anyone who put those lines in, and anyone who left that crap there. We need a scooper in Hollywood.

Marty Kaplan, an otherwise thoughtful writer, in a blog post yesterday, thanks President Obama for points made in his Saturday address: "He nailed Republicans for standing in the way of extending unemployment insurance, and for retailing the canard that a few hundred dollars a week will transform jobless Americans into welfare queens."

There are more men out of work than women. Are we talking gay men here? Did President Obama really say this? I doubt even a Republican said it.

It's too damn easy to leave this language laying about. Scoop it up, Kaplan, Hollywood. I'm not sure today if The Boot is kicking, or stomping. Excuse me while I clean my shoes.
